Types of Fraud
and Tips to Protect
Your Finances
Calls from “government officials”

Fraudsters impersonate employees of the Bank, police, prosecutor’s office, financial investigation services, postal companies, mobile operators, utility services, and other government bodies. They talk about “suspicious transactions,” “account breaches,” meter updates, phone number renewal, package delivery, and ask you to provide a code or transfer money.

How to avoid losing your funds:

• Never share passwords, PINs, CVV numbers, or SMS codes.
• Hang up immediately and call the Bank yourself if you have even the slightest doubt.
• Do not keep all your money on one card.
• Remember: there are no “safe accounts.”
• Do not trust photos, forms, logos, or “titles” in messengers.
• Government authorities do not call citizens via WhatsApp and do not conduct investigations by phone.

“Relative in trouble” scam

Fraudsters call you and use a manipulated or imitated voice of someone you know, asking you to urgently transfer money for “treatment,” “a fine,” or to “save” someone.

How to avoid losing your funds:

• Call the real number of your relative.
• Ask a question only they would know the answer to.
Warn elderly relatives, since they are the primary targets of such schemes.

Phishing SMS and messages with links

Fake messages appear to come from official services (“1414”, “Egov”, “QazPost”, “E-Salyk”, National Bank, etc.) and contain a link to a fraudulent website or a request to provide personal data.

How to avoid losing your funds:

• Do not click links from SMS, messengers, or e-mails and do not reply to them.
• Do not enter card details or personal data on unfamiliar websites.
Install a reliable antivirus program. No. 08-2-06/3003 dated 09.09.2025

Malware and virus applications

Fraudsters distribute malicious apps and banners that lock your phone or steal your data.

How to avoid losing your funds:

• Download apps only from official stores (Play Market, App Store).
• Check reviews and the developer’s name.
• Do not visit suspicious websites or download files from them.
Do not install anything at the request of strangers, even if they claim to be “helping you set up your phone.”

Fake online stores

Fraudsters create fake websites that copy popular online retailers.

How to avoid losing your funds:

• Shop only on trusted websites with a good reputation.
• Check the website address. Fake domains may differ by one letter or symbol.
• Read seller ratings and reviews.
Never make prepayments to unknown accounts or cards.

Promises of easy money

Scammers, often using fake images of celebrities, try to convince you to invest money with promises of “risk-free earnings” or “huge guaranteed profit”, and "It's a fair deal, just transfer the money."

How to avoid losing your funds:

•
Do not believe ads promising fast income with no risks. It is always a trap.
•
Stop communication at the first sign of suspicious activity.
•
Verify all information about the company through official sources and reviews.
Never transfer money for “commissions” or “activation fees.”

Fake charity organizations

During disasters or tragedies, fraudsters send messages asking for donations: “Help pay for treatment,” “Family lost their home,” “Child needs surgery”.

How to avoid losing your funds:

• Do not click links in SMS or messengers, and do not transfer money.
• Verify the organization through its official website or trusted sources.
Donate only through reputable charitable foundations.

“You won a prize!” scam

You receive a message or call saying: “You are the winner of a prize draw!” To receive the “prize,” they ask you to pay a fee, tax, or delivery cost.

How to avoid losing your funds:

• Do not click links in such messages.
• Do not enter personal data on unknown websites.
Never transfer money for participation, tax, or delivery.

Employment and business scams

Scammers promise high salaries, remote work, or profitable partnerships. They ask for payment for “registration,” “commission,” or “training,” and then disappear.

How to avoid losing your funds:

• Do not click links from spam messages or suspicious ads.
• Do not pay for job placement, access to a vacancy database, or “entry into a business.”
• Verify the employer and the company’s website through open sources.
